Grand Canyon National Park Flood Information

On Saturday, August 29, severe flash flooding struck Bright Angel Canyon and the inner canyon area of the Grand Canyon, causing significant damage to park infrastructure, including the Transcanyon Waterline that supplies water to the South Rim.

 

Because the waterline is out of operation and water reserves are limited, the National Park Service implemented Stage 4 water restrictions at the South Rim beginning Monday, August 31, at noon. Under these restrictions, all overnight lodging inside the park is closed. The park remains open for day use, and food and beverage services, the Grand Canyon Clinic, and the Post Office remain available.

 

The Stage 4 restrictions apply only to lodging physically inside the national park boundary. Tusayan, the gateway town just south of the South Rim entrance, sits entirely outside the park and is not affected by the closures. Papillon Grand Canyon Helicopters, Grand Canyon Scenic Airlines, and Buck Wild Hummer Tours, all based in Tusayan, continue to operate on their normal schedules, and hotels in Tusayan remain open as well.
