Helicopter Trip from Vegas to Grand Canyon FAQs

How long does it take to get to the Grand Canyon from Las Vegas?

  • The distance from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon depends entirely on which rim of the canyon you would like to reach.

    • West Rim: Approximately 130 miles or two and a half hours driving
    • South Rim: Approximately 280 miles or four and a half hours driving
    • North Rim: Approximately 270 miles or four and a half hours driving

Which is the best helicopter tour in the Grand Canyon?

  • Papillon Helicopters provides the best Grand Canyon helicopter tours available in the region. We offer several different types of tours. Some of them can be found in Las Vegas, while others are located in Boulder City and the Grand Canyon South Rim. Passengers can choose between various routes that take them to multiple points in and around this area of Arizona's natural wonderland. The most popular tours depart from Las Vegas and flies to the Canyon's West Rim. The West Rim Tour takes passengers over Hoover Dam and Lake Mead before landing on top of a mountain on the west side of Grand Canyon National Park.

Is a Grand Canyon helicopter tour worth it?

  • Yes! Flying with Papillon on a Grand Canyon helicopter tour makes your trip to this natural wonder even more spectacular. Sure, it’s awe-inspiring to stand at the edge of the edge, but you'll only truly get a perspective on how enormous the Grand Canyon is when flying above it. With Papillon’s wide array of Grand Canyon tours you can land 4,000 feet below the rim of the canyon, soar over the Dragon Corridor, the widest and deepest part of the Grand Canyon, stroll across the glass-bottomed Grand Canyon Skywalk, or take the road less traveled to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon in style aboard your VIP helicopter!

How many Front/Window seats can my party request?

  • For helicopter tours, your party can request 1-3 front seats depending on the aircraft type. For airplane tours aboard a Twin Otter, there are 14 window seats that you can request. The Cessna Caravan airplane only has one seat per row, so all seats are window seats.

You are welcome to request as many window seats as your party desires, but be advised that we cannot guarantee seat placement until all passengers have been weighed and the balance of the aircraft has been determined.

Can my child sit on the Front/Window Seat?

  • You may request a window seat for your child on an airplane tour; however, children are not permitted to sit by the door or emergency exit. On helicopter tours, children can sit in the middle front seat.

Can we communicate with our pilot during our tour?

  • Aside from the headset narration available in multiple languages for each passenger, your headset on helicopter tours also includes a microphone so you can communicate with your party and the pilot. Airplane tours also include headset narration but do not allow passengers to speak to the pilot(s).

What differentiates the helicopter tours from the airplane tours?

  • All of our air tours are unique in their own way. The primary difference between airplane tours and helicopter tours is the destination. For example, one can only reach the Grand Canyon National Park or Antelope Canyon from Las Vegas via airplane. Helicopter tours can traverse the Las Vegas Strip or the Grand Canyon West, where only helicopters can land on the very bottom. Helicotper tours over the Grand Canyon National Park are also available upon arrival via airplane.

What altitude do the helicopters fly at?

  • Our helicopters fly at different altitudes depending on the specific tour. Altitudes can range from 1,000 feet to nearly a mile above sea level. Some tours, including the Grand Celebration, even land on the very bottom of the Grand Canyon West.
